Symphony No. 1: A Hero's Journey (2006), Symphonic Band, ca. 27:00

This work was funded in part by a Composer Assistance Grant from the American Music Center, and a Humanities and Arts Research Program (HARP) grant from the Mississippi State University Institute for the Humanities. It was premiered by the Symphonic Band at the University of Oklahoma in Norman in the spring of 2006. It is based by the work of author Joseph Campbell, The Hero with a Thousand Faces.

Ad astra per aspera (2005), Orchestra, 8:30, 2(pic)2(ob or EH)2(bs clr)2-2210-timp+1-archi

This work was written for the Medical Arts Symphony of Kansas City (a community orchestra) and was premiered by them in April 2005. This piece takes its title from the state motto of Kansas, being translated "though the stars through difficulties." I am a native Kansan, and wrote this piece to honor the sesquicentennial of the Kansas Territory. It is suitable for a community or college orchestra. This work was funded in part by a Composer Assistance Grant from the American Music Center.

Golgotha (2003), Orchestra, 11:00 3333-4331-Timp+2-archi

This piece won the Northridge Prize for Orchestra Composition (2005). It was premiered by the California State-Northridge Orchestra in March 2006. It has also been performed by the Indiana University Symphony Orchestra. Golgotha is the name of the hill upon which Christ was crucified. This work was funded in part by a Composer Assistance Grant from the American Music Center.

WITNESS STONE (2000), Orchestra, 4:30, 2222-4331-timp+2-archi

This exciting overture was premiered at the Brevard Music Festival in 2000. The title refers to Joshua 24:26-27, where Joshua sets up a great stone that bears witness to an oath made by the Israelites.
